Editorial policy

Every guide on Texas Prediction Markets is written, edited, and fact-checked by Catie Di Stefano, our Editor-in-Chief. Catie has 15 years in the regulated gambling industry — Betsson Group, nearly five years at Gaming Innovation Group (GiG), then an independent consultancy that included a licensed engagement with Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City under an NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement vendor license. She has spoken publicly on Texas's gaming market since 2022 and now covers prediction markets full-time.

Fact-check standards

Every claim on this site is verified against primary sources before publication and re-checked when we update a guide. Catie personally reviews every legal, tax, and platform-mechanics claim.

  • Legal & regulatory: verified against CFTC orders, no-action letters, and enforcement actions (cftc.gov); federal and Texas court rulings via PACER and CourtListener; and the Texas Penal Code and Attorney General opinions.
  • Platform mechanics: fees, eligibility, restricted states, KYC requirements, and payout rules are verified directly against the official help centers and Terms of Service of Polymarket, ProphetX, Kalshi, OG (Crypto.com), Novig and Rebet.
  • Tax guidance: cross-referenced with IRS publications, the platforms' own tax-document pages and professional commentary; the IRS has not issued guidance on event-contract income, and we say so.
  • Weather & sports data: sourced from NOAA, the National Hurricane Center, ERCOT, and official league statistics.
