What federal regulation does — and doesn't — settle

Texas has no legal sportsbooks. What Texas law regulates is wagering — you against a bookmaker. A prediction market is a different animal: you buy a Yes or No contract from another trader on a federally regulated exchange, and it settles at $1.00 or $0.00 on the official result. Kalshi and Polymarket US are in the same position: CFTC-designated exchanges that accept Texas residents while courts elsewhere decide whether state gambling law can apply to sports contracts.

What makes ProphetX slightly unusual is that it is licensed to both run and clear its own exchange, rather than listing through someone else's. That's a heavier regulatory burden, not a lighter one.

The sweepstakes chapter is over

ProphetX previously ran on a sweepstakes model. That's gone. There are no coins, no promotional currencies and no social-app mechanics — you deposit dollars and trade contracts on a licensed exchange. Frequently asked questions

Is ProphetX legal in Texas?

ProphetX is available in Texas. It has been a CFTC-designated contract market since 11 June 2026 (reported also approved as a clearing organization the same day). The platforms argue that federal commodities law overrides state gambling law; Texas, in the Fifth Circuit, has no appeals ruling on that question. Federal appeals courts are split on whether states can apply their gambling laws to sports event contracts; Texas's circuit hasn't ruled.

Is ProphetX the same as a sportsbook?

No. There is no house taking the other side of your position and no bookmaker line. You trade sports event contracts with other users on a regulated exchange.

Was ProphetX a sweepstakes app before?

It ran a sweepstakes model previously. That model was retired after the CFTC approved ProphetX as a full exchange in 2026; today you deposit dollars and trade contracts.

How old do I have to be?

ProphetX checks age and eligibility during registration. Our editorial policy is 21+.

Which states can use ProphetX?

ProphetX announced its US launch on 18 June 2026 and accepts Texas residents; its welcome offer is valid in 49 states plus D.C. (not Nevada). ProphetX publishes no state list. Eligibility is confirmed during sign-up.
